Notes on how this site was made.

• Typography

  Headlines are set in Fraunces, running text in Inter. Both are self-hosted, cut down to the characters this site actually uses, and preloaded, so the first words on screen arrive in their final form.

• Build

  Every page is hand-built and served from Cloudflare's edge network, out of whichever data center sits nearest the person reading. The page typically arrives in about a tenth of a second.

• On every screen

  Photographs are cut to four widths and delivered in WebP, so each browser takes only the file its screen needs. Type and spacing scale with the viewport, and the layout keeps its proportions from a phone at the bar to a wide desktop.

• Menus and calendar

  The menus and the events calendar are edited by the Darling team and go live the moment they are saved.

• Reservations

  Tables are booked through Resy. Private events are handled by the Darling events team.

• Credits

  Built by Mattimore with Back of House for Darling by Sean Brock.
